We operate the DYNO Battery mobile app. This notice explains what the app collects, why, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is given under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 of Malaysia.

If you would rather not have your information handled as described here, please do not register a device in the app. The app cannot show you your battery’s condition without the information below.

1. What the app collects

When you register your battery monitor:

  • Battery serial number — identifies which battery the readings belong to, and matches the warranty record.
  • Vehicle registration number — so that you and our workshop can tell your vehicle apart from another customer’s.
  • Monitor device identifier — identifies the hardware that produced the readings.

From the battery monitor, automatically:

Voltage, cranking current, internal resistance, temperature, and the time of each engine start and engine stop. These are read from the monitor over Bluetooth when your phone is near it, and uploaded to our servers so that your battery’s history survives a lost or replaced phone.

We want to be plain about one thing: a long series of engine-start and engine-stop times is a record of when you use your vehicle. We use it only to judge your battery’s condition and to predict when it will need attention. We do not use it to track your movements, and it contains no location information of any kind.

If you allow notifications:

A notification token issued by Firebase Cloud Messaging, a Google service, and whether your phone is Android or iOS. This lets us tell you when your battery needs attention. It does not identify you by name. Notifications are optional — decline the permission and the app still works.

2. What the app does not collect

  • No location. The app asks for location permission because Android requires that permission before any app is allowed to search for Bluetooth devices. The app never reads your location, and no location is stored or sent to us. If Android’s permission screen makes this sound broader than it is, that is Android’s wording rather than ours.
  • No photographs. The app uses your camera only to read the QR code on your battery monitor. The code is decoded on your phone and the picture is discarded. No image leaves your device.
  • No name, email address or phone number. The app has no user account. Your battery is identified by its serial number and your vehicle by its registration number.
  • No contacts, no microphone, no advertising identifier. We run no advertising and no third-party analytics in this app.

3. Why we handle this information

To provide the battery monitoring service you asked for, and to support the warranty on a battery we supplied. Where we rely on your consent, you give it by registering a device in the app, and you may withdraw it at any time by asking us to delete your registration.

4. Where it is stored

On servers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, operated for us by Alibaba Cloud.

Two things travel outside Malaysia, and we would rather state them than leave you to discover them. Encrypted copies of our databases are held for backup purposes on a server in Singapore operated by our group’s technical team. And notification tokens are handled by Firebase Cloud Messaging, which is Google infrastructure outside Malaysia; what passes through it is a device token, not your vehicle registration number or battery serial number.

5. Who we share it with

  • Our authorised workshops and installers, so that they can service your battery.
  • Our service providers — the hosting provider named above, and Google for delivering notifications — who handle it only on our instructions.
  • Nobody else. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.

If we are required to disclose information by law or by a court, we will do so, and we will tell you unless the law forbids it.

6. How long we keep it

For as long as you have a registered device, and afterwards for as long as we need it to support the warranty on your battery and to meet our legal obligations. We do not keep it for longer than those purposes require.

7. Your rights

You may ask us to:

  • tell you what information we hold about you and where it came from;
  • correct anything inaccurate, incomplete or out of date;
  • stop handling it, or withdraw a consent you have given;
  • delete your registration, after which the app can no longer show your battery’s history.

Write to privacy@tukarbateri.com.my. We will reply as quickly as we can, and within any period the law requires. We may ask you to confirm your battery serial number or vehicle registration number first, so that we do not disclose one customer’s information to somebody else.

Please note that deleting your registration does not erase the readings already stored on the monitor itself. That hardware keeps its own history until it is reset or replaced.

8. Security

Connections between the app and our servers are encrypted (HTTPS), and our database backups are encrypted.

No system is completely secure. If a breach occurs that affects your personal information, we will act on it and notify you and the relevant authority where we are required to.

9. Children

The app is intended for vehicle owners and is not directed at children.

10. Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle your information we will publish the revised notice on this page and change the date at the top. Where a change is significant we will also tell you in the app.
